Dear A5 Rangers,
Hope this post finds you all well and enjoying being out in this lovely weather. It certainly feels less of a struggle now to get out on the bike. I am training hard towards my challenge of the year (cycling from Edinburgh to London in 29hours) and it feels like I’m hardly out of the saddle. Only 5 weeks to go now!!!!
I have become a 2nd claim member of Stafford Road Club and I also ride out with Stone Wheelers to keep my training up. I have also been riding to work and back. In all I have been averaging 200-250 miles per week since the start of the year. I have done a number of longer rides such as Stafford to mid Norfolk 161miles in 9hrs 30mins.
I participated in some early season sportives to keep me concentrated on my training throughout the colder months these included the Cheshire Cat 100 mile Sportive. I was really happy to achieve Gold Standard with a time of 5 hours 33 (this event contained 4 major hills near the peak district and was hard work)
Fund raising is going well and to date I have raised £1050 I really hope to bump this amount up to £2000 and Network Rail has promised to double the amount that I manage to raise, so as ever all donations will be very gratefully received. Remember you can donate at www.justgiving.co.uk/racethelasttrain or by the sponsor sheet in the club. You can also find all of the latest information at www.racethelasttrain.co.uk
I have now set up a system which will allow live updates to be seen during the challenge both on the website and the events facebook fan page so everyone can follow my progress.
We are both settled and busy at work, Emma has been busy in the garden planting fruit and vegetables etc. Yesterday she made jam for the first time. We are enjoying the sights and sounds of country life.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Kind Regards
Dave Gill
