One-hundred Cols and Help-4-Heroes

Written by Administrator

Many Club Members sponsored me six years ago, when I cycled Land’s End to John O’ Groats, in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Charity – in this case we raised ca £3,400 for a great cause. This time I’m asking you to give your support to another good cause - the “Help for Heroes” charity. This organisation provides practical help to injured men and women returning to the UK, from serving in areas of current conflict. Most of these service-people have lost limbs (and worse) and may need a great deal of practical support and encouragement, through their rehabilitation period. Many of them bravely go on to obtain employment whilst some even return to the Services.  If, like me you have been touched by the bravery of these guys and their valiant efforts to rehabilitate themselves, please join with me and others and pledge your financial help.

To publicise their plight, I (and 33 other cyclists) am planning to cycle the Ultimate Sportive - the Rapha Cent Cols Challenge, starting on 12th September 2010, from Annecy in the French Alps, returning there ten days later. The Challenge entails climbing at least 100 cols (passes) and covering over 1000 miles in that time. We will face challenges where team-working and mutual support will be vital to our success. This is probably as close as ordinary mortals will ever get, to the level of camaraderie which our servicemen and women experience in their exploits – but by no means as brave or as dangerous! The costs of the trip are borne by the riders themselves, so that the whole of the contribution you make goes to help our heroes.

It’s easy to make a donation by going to my web page at www.bmycharity.com/keithgelder where there is more information.  You can donate on-line here and enable Gift Aid so that the Charity can re-claim any tax paid by you.  All contributions go to "Help for Heroes" - no administration deductions are made by the web-site, thus every penny counts!

If you’re interested in following the actual route then please go to the website at www.centcolschallenge.com.

Thank you very much,

Cheers,

Keith
