Additional Ride 25/06/2011

Sunday, 26 June 2011 00:00 | Written by M Smith

Additional Ride 25/06/2011 Seven of us headed out through Greens Norton, Litchborough and Farthingstone. All was going well until we had a puncture at the bottom of the hill before Everdon Stubbs, strange one as a small hole burst through the tyre side wall at top speed going down the hill. This was fixed and we trudged up the hill to Everdon Stubbs with cold legs and were then rewarded with the downhill into Everdon itself. Then through Newnham and onto Poets Way hill, a nice quiet long drag up, parallel to the infamous Newnham Hill. Down again and straight across the A45 (after waiting for a DIY botch job to be remedied) to go on the hard(ish) surfaced byway past the aerial towers on Borough Hill. This looks like a drive way to a farm and 1 person asked ‘Can we get through there?’. It’s a nice little cut through with a bit of loose gravel but no large pot holes. An interesting sign stated that the council would close this byway if anyone damaged the surface, luckily we were gentle with it!

This led us nicely to directly opposite the Heart of the Shires for a cafe stop for 6 of us and 1 of us sat outside with the excuse of his bike not being insured, but I think he just likes admiring it and couldn’t be parted from it for too long.

Back through Flore, Nether Heyford, Bugbrooke, up Birds Hill and across to Dalscote, Tiffield & Caldecote. 1 rider left us just before Birds Hill and the remaining 6 split when we reached the A5 at 12:40 with 31 miles covered at 15.3mph.

Thanks for the company, a great ride! Route info:
