Additional Ride 28th May
8 of us headed out on the Additional Ride expecting rain, but enjoyed a dry ride. We went along the Abthorpe road but turned left towards Silverstone. Past the recently opened ‘Wing’ at the racing circuit and on to Dadford and Water Stratford. A few riders missed the small un- signposted right turn (easily done, to be fair)and had to turn back, but I think they enjoyed the extra exercise! Before Finmere we crossed the Bucks/Oxfordshire border to complete our 3 counties. In Mixbury, an oncoming car overtaking some parked cars caused us to make a forced stop, then the next car gave us so much room that he clipped the wing mirror of 1 of the parked cars, much to the dismay of the parked car owner who was standing right next to it! Through Evenley (with a very large and pretty village green), across the A43, turned right at Hinton- in-the-Hedges and straight across the A422 to a cycle path leading into Brackley. The cycle path has a 8inch high ‘wall’ at 1 end for which we had to dismount and a similar ‘wall’ at the other end but with a narrow groove cut through it. Only a few of us were brave/skilled enough to go straight through the groove without unclipping, so well done to them!
After 22 miles we enjoyed a pleasant break in the Courtyard Coffee House in Brackley, then headed home through Helmdon, Wappenham and Abthorpe, 35miles in total at 15.5mph, arriving in Silverstone at 12:45
