Club Ride 21st May 2011

Saturday, 21 May 2011 00:00 | Written by Craig

The longer ride led by Craig with nine riders set off for Harrold Country Park. The route was plotted by Martin S., using the wonders of modern science so I will only give it a very brief cover. Out via Stoke Bruerne, Ashton, round the back lanes on to Long Street, Hanslope, Gayhurst, Tyringham and Filgrave. Then a short ride on the cycle path along side the A509 to Emberton. Here Jonny A's free hub decided to be literally free as he luckily only temporally lost all drive. This was not to be Jonny's day as we will see later. On now to Newton Blossomville where we briefly stopped to see a WW2 Home Guard firing point set in a wall. On to Turvey and Charlton and some lovely countryside to the cafe at Harrold; a distance of about 26 miles. Setting off after lunch through Lavendon and now into a head wind as we turned westerly. Through Olney to Weston Underwood where the "Flying Fickle Finger of Fate" touched Jonny again and his rear dérailleur cable broke at the nipple in the lever. Home through Stoke Goldington, Salcey forest and Stoke Bruerne. Back at 2.24pm with a distance covered of 52 miles. Congratulations to Jane W, for completing her first club run 50+ miles. Goodbye and good luck to Luke T., as he returns to university and will be sitting exams as I write this on the Monday. He will be missed on the club runs.
