Longer club run 7th May 2011

The longer ride of seven led by Craig set
off after a last minute change of bikes by Craig and Mick. The weather quickly lived up to the
dismal forecast of rain and by the time the group reached Wappenham it was pouring down. Those
without mudguards and I raise my hand here were "enjoying" the delights of a cold back shower as
well as rain from the front. My apologies to those behind me. On through Helmdon, Sulgrave,
Culworth, Wardington, Williamscot to Cropredy. Here we stopped at the shop to buy food as we were
rather too wet to go into a cafe. This turned out to be a good move as when we got to the cafe at
Claydon it was closed! Out of Claydon, where three riders had to turn for home, on to Wormleighton
and across the A423 to Fenny Compton. By now the sun was shining and after a climb up the hill we
arrived at Burton Dassett country park to enjoy the glorious views. Unfortunately there was no ice
cream van there. Down the hill on the other side, over the M40, a short ride along the B4100 and
to the cafe at Kineton. Home now down the B4086 up a short section of the 14% Edgehill but with a
left turn to miss the hard part of the climb and on to Farnborough Cropredy, Williamscot, Chacombe,
Thorpe Mandeville, Sulworth, Weston, Plumton and home at 4.15 pm. Distance covered 64 miles with
no punctures. Congratulation to Roddy Grant and Rob Flynn for completing their first 50+ club run.
