Club Ride 7th May 2011

Saturday, 07 May 2011 00:00 | Written by Martin

5 men, 1 woman and 1 child decided to take a chance on the weather and head to Farthingstone via Wappenham, Moreton Pinkney and Maidford. It appeared to be brightening up as we left the clubroom, but we had to stop for waterproofs before even getting out of Towcester. We passed those on the long ride whilst they put on waterproofs and performed a couple of bike changes, but we stopped to let them pass at Wappenham! A quick dash to Canons Ashby and along to Maidford (with a re-grouping along route) when it stopped raining at last. We arrived at Farthingstone village hall where Bay Tree Cottage next door was holding an open day. Soaking wet, we declined the tour of their small nursery, but instead enjoyed huge slices of cake at £2 a go and unlimited tea and coffee. 1 of us enjoyed the craft stalls selling their goods in the hall but fortunately for her other half, she had no panniers with her!

After this extended stay, we were amazed to find dry roads, sunshine and 20degrees warmth for a pleasant ride back via Lithborough and Greens Norton, clocking up 25miles.

Well done to everyone in some tricky riding conditions!

Enjoyed the ride, regret my knees were a handicap following 3 hilly rides in Hampshire with CTC holiday. Thanks for patience, got back dry to Paulerspury in good time for my duties at book sale.
Great tea & cake stop.

So are you going to divulge which 'other half' was fortunate then Martin?
