16-04-11 Long and Additional Rides
16 April 2011, a bright chill morning with the promise of sunshine later in the day. Nineteen members and one guest turned up mostly wearing shorts with their legs showing the effects of the winter gloom.
Three rides on offer; John Lichfield led off the shorter run. See John's write up.
Paul Smith led off the additional ride to Weedon. The riders were; Matt L., Ben J., Jon G., Chris M., Richard H., and Derek M. The route was via Greens Norton, Maidford, Little Preston, down the U-tube and up the 18% hill to Everdon Stubbs. On to Weedon with a few other hills climbed there and back. Home early afternoon with a distance covered of about 35 miles.
Mick Holliday led off the longer ride. The riders were; Craig H., Martin S., Peter S., and Luke T. The destination was Wyatt's Farm Shop near the Roll Right Stones just above Chipping Norton. The route was via Abthorpe, Sulgrave, Thorpe Mandeville, Cropredy, Great Barton, Hanwell, Shutford and Sibford. We arrived at Wyatt's at 12.15 after cycling through some glorious countryside and up some not so beautiful hills. On the road again at 1pm after a good lunch. Home via Wiggington, Milcombe, Bloxham and Adderbury where we walked through a street party in the High Street with Morris Dancers in attendance and the smell of BBQ burgers and sausages in our nostrils. On again through King's Sutton to Limes Farm Shop at Farthinghoe, here Mick produced a coupon for a free piece of cake! On again when I (Craig) went into a dream world and headed off on my own up the wrong hill only to wake up at the top to discover no one else was with me or in sight. All ended well as we met up again at Mick's house. Home about 4pm, distance covered 72 miles. The first club 70+ club run this year thanks to a 3 mile navigational error by he who shall not be named. A very good run out.
