Club run 19/03/11
A glorious early spring morning with the sun shining. 18 members and two visitors (welcome Chris Marsh and Rob Flynn) in two groups got away at 0930 am. Sue took one group of 12 out and Craig took the 50 mile + group of 8 riders out. The 50+ report follows. The route out was Greens Norton, Blakesley, Little Preston, across the A 361 and on to Hellidon. Some of you may recognise we are following the recent Phil. Cooke sportive route. Up to Staverton and after a dash down the A425 a right turn took us out to the beautiful quiet countryside of Warwickshire. On to Flecknoe, if you have never cycled this route before make sure you come out the next time we go. We arrived at Willoughby at 1130 am and here 5 riders had to return home. So 3 of us continued on the sportive route to Barby, Dunchurch (no cafe there) and on to Blooms Garden Centre, a copy of the Wooton Garden Centre at Northampton for lunch. Off again following the sportive route; round the top of Draycote reservoir (no cafe there any more)through Bourton on Dunsmore, Birdingbury to our old friends Napton on the Hill and up Keys Lane out of Priors Marsdon. We are now off the sportive route and heading for home via Little Preston, Blakesley and Greens Norton. Home at 3,30pm all agreed a very good run out in beautiful sunshine. Distance covered 66 miles. I needed that after a long winter.
