Longer ride 05/03/2011

I offered a longer and shorter version of the long ride today and a couple of riders expressed a preference for the short version, so 38miles (or 39miles if you add the 1st mile I missed on my bike computer) to Winslow and back it was (I’ll keep the 52 mile alternative up my sleeve for another time).
Peter Semler, Paul Smith, Andrew Overton, Steve Pullen, Derek Moyle, Chris Mason, I and 1 guest Steve Marchant headed out past Silverstone to boost our adrenaline with the sound of cars racing.
All was going well, I even managed to get through Tingewick without a puncture (my 1st puncture on this bike was in Tingewick). At Gawcott I was planning to go cross country to Padbury, but my Garmin changed its mind since this morning and decided to take us through the centre of Buckingham. A bit more confusion led to us going on the A413 to Winslow rather than the village route, but on the upside, it was quicker.
A pleasant stop at the Jenny Wren cafe and we made a quick exit as Team MK arrived. At least I thought we made a quick exit. We headed out of the village on the A413 and turned right, to find we were 3 missing. We stopped, waited, waited some more, so I headed back to see the exocet shoot past back down the A413. Luckily, his 2 followers spotted me on the right turn and the exocet had to make a quick u-turn. It turned out Andrew’s chain had come off and got jammed, causing the delay.
After re-grouping, we headed North, but 1 rider’s knee was suffering so 2 of us slowed up and the other 5 carried on, never to be seen again (I hope you made it back home safely guys!).
1 more drop off on route and Andrew and I made it back to base, alone!
A very enjoyable ride, thanks to everyone!!

I can only think of one thing worse - a man's 'friends' colluding to ruin his hard earned Saturday morning ride by fooling him into believinbg that, said wife & kids, had been left by the road side!
Good ride, good pace.
