Shorter Club Run Saturday 31st July

Once again we had enough riders to have two club runs on Saturday 31st July. While Craig led the longer run I headed out with the other six riders on the shorter ride to the café at Turweston Airfield. We haven’t been there for a while but it is always a cycle friendly destination. Myself, Jane Grant, Lee Milan, John Litchfield, Derek Moyle, Paul Smith & Dave Neill made our way through Towcester to the McDonalds crossing, once Lee decided which run he was going on!!!! Our route then took us through Abthorpe to Wappenham and the left turn up the steep hill to Syresham. Through Syresham we continued on to Biddlesden and the right turn to the café at the airfield. Just before we got there I felt something hit my face just below my left eye. As I brushed it away I felt a sharp stinging pain and realised I had been stung by a wasp. Luckily my cycling glasses kept the insect far enough away from my eye not to cause problems but it was pretty painful non the less. When we reached the café I explained what had happened Luckily Jane knew that you had to put a mild acid on wasp stings so I used a paper napkin to apply some of the vinegar to café supplied for their customers’ chips. It did the trick and reduced the pain straight away. That meant I could concentrate on my cake. We left the airfield by the back way, along the bridleway into Turweston village. Lee led us along this bit as he had done the route before. Once back on the road we skirted the edge of Brackley and headed through Helmdon, Wappenham and Abthorpe to Towcester. The weather stayed dry for us with plenty of sunshine. 27 miles covered and a good time had by all.
