Clubrun 24th July 2010
Six members enjoyed the stop at Jenny Wren’s cafĂ© in Winslow – Matt, Luke, Harry, Paul and Steve and Mick on the tandem. As usual for this particular watering hole there was a cycling club already in attendance. Team Milton Keynes had about twelve members taking up two big tables. It looked like their intermediate ride.
The ride out was fairly uneventful with the promise of a hot day ahead. Wappenham, Syresham and Biddlesden took us to Shalstone where a brief stop was made so Steve could investigate what he thought was an insect bite just inside one of his socks. The culprit escaped and we continued on to Finmere, Tingewick. Gawcott and Verney Junction to Winslow.
The return route was slightly shorter than the outward route – Little Horwood, Single borough, Thornton, Wicken and Paulerspury. The tandem suffered a couple of mechanicals. Firstly, it decided to throw the rear chain off – if the pros can do it then why not the rest of us! What looked like the mother of all chain jams – luckily for Mick – wasn’t. A little later Steve noticed that the rear end of the tandem was soaking up more of the ever increasing pot-hole induced road shock. That could only, and did, mean one thing. That was only our second puncture in three years so we can’t complain too much about that.
The promised hot day did materialise and forty-six miles were covered.
Mick.
