Leisure Ride Saturday 29-05-10

Saturday, 29 May 2010 00:00

On a miserably wet and windy Saturday morning nine hardy members set out to cycle to Delapre Abbey via Greens Norton, Duncote, Caldicote, Tiffield,Gayton Milton Malsor, Collingtree, Wootton. Led by  our intrepid Tandem pair of Mick who sits at the front and steers !!! while Steve is pumping away at the back pushing the pair forward. The further we went the wetter we were getting but Mick led the majority of us on a route we had not travelled before,  eventually reaching the Abbey via cycle routes and underpasses in the Northampton town area. Nine very soggy and bedraggled cyclists were met with warmth and smiles from the staff in the tea rooms who provided us with tea towels to wipe our faces dry and sit on. Coffee, tea and a wide variety of cakes were consumed before we dragged ourselves outside and back into the, still pouring rain.

Julie and Jane were heard discussing the problems of wet underwear, but Julie realizing your Keith the reporter was in earshot quickly closed that conversation saying if he hears what were saying it will be in the leisure report. Mick once again led us through different  streets, cycle paths and underpasses  to arrive on the road through Hunsbury onto Gayton Tiffield, Caldicote, Duncote, Greens Norton and as we turned to head towards Towcester the rain really had a last belt at us right into our faces. Still we all made it back safely. On arriving home Audrey thought I was mad to have cycled through such rain but you have to take all weathers your an A5  Ranger.

Members present were Paul Smith, Julie Hartfield, John Litchfield, Steve Parnell, Craig Hamilton, Pete Warner, Jane Warner, Mick Holliday, Keith Mason, all one point each.

looks like missed out on the rain, well it was hard sitting back in a 16th century inn on the border to Wales and having to drink lager and wine before a very nice meal, I felt real guilt, but looking at it from another view I put on a few pounds so will have to work extra hard this Saturday. Sounds like I missed out on a very wet ride... Didn't make it out this week as trying to rest the back. Hopefully see you all next week.
