A successful day for the Club’s CX racers

Sunday, 16 October 2011 00:00 | Written by Roddy

Sunday 16th October saw the Club’s Cyclo-cross racers in action at Hemel Hempstead for Round 4 of the Central Cyclo-cross League. The Club fielded five racers, while a further six spectators came along to witness the thrills and spills. The end of the day saw four of the Club’s riders on the podium.

First up was Skip Snelson in the U10s. Skip led from the start on his new CX Islabike. It was obvious from the start that, mishaps aside, he was going to finish in uncontested first position. Well done Skip.

Next up, came Alasdair Grant with his second race in the U12s. The race was dominated from the start by the oldest boy who looked twice the size of any of the other riders. He started, and finished, a well deserved first. The battle for second place followed in his wake. Alasdair had a slow start but using his endurance, combined with short bursts of power, he left the rest behind and finished a convincing second.

Rhona Grant and Elizabeth Ruffley again raced at the same time in the U14s and U16s respectively. Rhona started slowly as usual, but her endurance held out and, 30 minutes later, she’d overtaken the field for a well deserved first. Elizabeth powered around the course from the start, again another clear winner for the Club!

In the Senior Race, Roddy Grant battled it out against the other eighty-eight riders to finish 39th Veteran. A much improved performance in spite of a couple of tumbles on the way.

This was a good result for the Club which could now almost be said to be dominating the Junior Races! It would be good to see some other seniors take to the field however. Please let Roddy Grant know if you fancy giving it a go.
