Race report for Central Cyclo-cross League, Round 2, Milton Keynes

Tuesday, 04 October 2011 00:00 | Written by Roddy

An unseasonably hot last Saturday in September saw the Club’s CX racers in action for their first race of the season.

The club had five riders & three spectators at Milton Keynes Bowl for the action on a very dry course.

In  the U12s Alasdair came 4th. Undaunted by moving up into a new age group this season, Alasdair had a great race. He unfortunately had a slow start which meant that he was held up in the general hurly-burly of the first section of single track. But he crept up the field for a fine first result in the U12 category.

Although still only 11, Rhona had her first race in the U14s. This saw her up against boys who were not only pushing 14, but were also nearly 6ft! To make matters worse, all Youth & Novice races took to the course at the same time. So Rhone (U14), Elizabeth (U16) & Jane (Novice) all raced at the same time. Rhona & Elizabeth had a private battle for the 30 minute race. Elizabeth started strong, but Rhona overtook her on a steep bank, before Elizabeth again put her greater experience to good use. The end of the race saw the pair sprinting against each other for the line, with Elizabeth winning the day. Congratulations to Elizabeth for winning the U16s Female, & Rhona for 4th place in the U14s. Jane took second in the Novice.

The last race of the day saw Roddy battle it out for over an hour in very hot conditions in the Senior race. After a strong start, he started to fade as the heat & lack of any lunch (forgotten about in the excitement of the earlier races) took its toll. He came a  disappointing 53rd out of a field of 73.
